Festival Fringe Events 

After a day's walk, a chance to relax and enjoy the company of other walkers and walk leaders.  We have various events arranged during the Festival and feel sure they will be as popular as the walks.  Evening events fill up quickly so please don't leave it too late!

WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY 2026

5.30 - 7.00pm, Welcome.
Welcome evening in the beautiful garden of the Castle Hotel – come along for a drink and to meet some of our walk leaders, festival organisers and fellow festival walkers. Enjoy the views from the garden across the town and into the hills which we’ll be exploring during the festival.

Heiptrw Hw!   Following in the Footsteps of the Welsh drovers
An illustrated talk by Mark Davis

Mark worked as a researcher and lecturer in exercise and health science at the University of Bristol. Now retired and living in the Brecon Beacons he is one of a growing band of Brecon Beacons National Park Ambassadors. The Ambassador programme piqued his interest in droving which has led to his involvement in walks and talks about droving.   The talk will delve into the history and practices of droving. Mark will identify the legacy of droving that is still with us and explore the routes used by Welsh drovers to reach lucrative English markets. Mark will draw on local features related to droving activity in the area.

Refreshments including bar will be open

Time: Doors open at 6.30pm and the talk starts at 7pm

Cost £5 pre-booked online or £8 at the door.

SATURDAY 16TH MAY 2026

Festival Dinner, 6.45pm - at the Church Barn
Join the walk leaders and your fellow walkers for our Festival dinner.
2-course menu:
chicken casserole, cream mash & vegetables
OR
vegetarian hotpot (including beans & cheese topping), cream mash & vegetables
with a choice of two desserts
Cost for 2 courses is £15 per person
Refreshments, including bar, available
Time: The Barn doors will be open from 6.45pm and dinner served at 7.15pm
Venue: Church Barn, Church Lane, Bishop’s Castle SY9 5AF
