BISHOP'S CASTLE WALKING FESTIVAL
In the Shropshire Hills
Welcome
We look forward to walking with you in 2025 and celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Bishop’s Castle Walking Festival.
Our friendly volunteer leaders have been guiding walks in this beautiful corner of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, on the Welsh border since 2000. Tucked in on the lea of Offa’s Dyke, we’ve lived with a history of borders, raids, journeys and travellers, all ingrained in our special landscape.
Join our local walk leaders who have planned their favourite routes and places to visits to create our 2025 programme of walks – which will be published here in December 2024. Help us celebrate our 25th anniversary and come along to our festival fringe events, and share in the local hospitality in and around Bishops Castle; Sparc Theatre, Castle Hotel, Six Bells Pub, Town Hall, Bishop's Castle and Beyond,
We look forward to welcoming new faces alongside those who have walked with us before.
‘The welcome meeting followed by four days of walks ending on a Sunday was ideal for us. Good variety of new walks of various lengths provided choice each day. In our nine years of participation we have never had to repeat a walk.
All evening events were very enjoyable and a welcome opportunity to meet with other walkers and members of BC community. We feel that they are an important part of the festival. We would like to take the opportunity to give our sincere thanks to the committee and all the other volunteers for their hard work in organising the festival and for making it such a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It’s one of the highlights of our year!’
‘I did the Hopesay Hop walk and loved it. Thank you for the leaders' care and consideration.’ The info provided in advance & during the walk felt just right. I liked that the pace of the walk wasn't too fast, so we could appreciate the surroundings & the fabulous views. Also it was quite hot, so it was good not to be under too much pressure. Thank you for arranging such nice weather!’
Ian was our leader and I can't fault him. The pace was ideal. He stopped every now and then with a little titbit of information, be it history or wildlife, which I found interesting. He looked out for members of our walk who were struggling and tried to adjust the walk to make it easier for them. Knowledgeable and friendly, all I needed in a guide.
Wonderful festival this year. Walked the Stiperstones Ridge walk, led by Sue and Steve, and the Hopesay walk led by Meg and Graham. Excellent leaders, giving us lots of information and looking after us, sharing their love of the local landscape. Very sociable groups...good company and enjoyable winding down at Six Bells after the walks . Looking forward to next year's festival...work done by organisers and leaders much appreciated.
Steve Tim was an excellent guide. Informative, friendly whilst also ensuring we were all together as a group and gave clear instructions. Set a nice pace. I really enjoyed the cake and tea at the end.
